Das Vorgehensmodell besteht aus fünf essentiellen Phasenschritten mit denen sich ein Unternehmensgründer auseinander setzen sollte, um am Ende des Entwicklungsprozesses ein marktfähiges Geschäftsmodell erstellen zu können. Aufbauend auf den fünf Phasenschritten wurden entsprechende Phasenziele und –inhalte abgeleitet, die den Gründern dabei helfen sollen die jeweilige part besser zu verstehen und Teilergebnisse zu erarbeiten. Entsprechend der abgeleiteten Inhalte konnten bestehende instruments und Methodiken identifiziert werden, die dem Unternehmensgründer einerseits Orientierung bei den Recherchen geben und andererseits bei der Erarbeitung der erforderlichen Ergebnisse eine Hilfestellung bieten. Während dem schrittweisen Durchlaufen des Vorgehensmodells können Informationen recherchiert und Ergebnisse sukzessive ausgearbeitet werden. Die Ergebnisse können laufend in die entsprechenden Bestandteile von Geschäftsmodellen rückgeführt und auf deren Konsistenz und Zusammenspiel geprüft werden.

Damit angehende Unternehmer mit dem Vorgehensmodell selbstständig arbeiten können wurde zudem ein Leitfaden entwickelt, der sich vor allem auch an Personen ohne fundierte betriebswirtschaftliche Kenntnisse richtet.
